The Sherman Town Board met in regular session Tuesday, August 4, 2015, at 7:30 p.m. at the Sherman Town Hall.
Members present: Lee Ellis, Gerry Karpen, Bill Benson, Cheryl Swenson and Robin Berg
Others present: Deputy Sheriff Phillip Leitholt, Tom Godbey , Ellen Karpen, Darcia Hansen, and Brian Berg
Approval of the Agenda: Motion by; Karpen, Second by; Benson.
ROUTINE BUSINESS:
Minutes of the July 7, 2015, meeting were approved as read. Motion by; Karpen, Second by; Benson
The treasurer’s report was approved as read, Motion by; Karpen, Second by; Benson.
CLAIMS APPROVED TO BE PAID: Xcel Energy, street light $269.79; park light $18.52 town hall lights; $29.84; Minnehaha Community Water, July water $30.00; Anderson Publications, June min. $21.75; Palisades Propane, fix propane tank $297.83; Lowe Sand and Gravel, 2 loads on 2nd Ave. $270.00; SDPAA, 2015 dues $52.00; Lucas Swenson, 5hrs culvert work 2nd Ave. $60.00; Zach Swenson 5hrs culvert work 2nd Ave. $60.00; Gerry Karpen, milage & time $20.00, 6hrs culvert work 2nd Ave. $72.00;Bill Benson, 3x mowing $120.00; Robin Berg, 3x mowing $90.00; Jonah Swenson, 3x mowing $105.00; Clay Bonte, 4x mowing $120.00;
NEW BUSINESS:
Ellis asked to move the, “Damage to the Sherman Slide in Strom Park”, issue to be first on the agenda for new business. On July 11, 2015 the large slide in Strom Park was damaged beyond repair. Ellis presented the town board a letter and check for $150.00, from Wes and Betty Lou Josephson. After some discussion and commets on the damaged slide, Karpen made a motion to refuse the check for $150.00, Second by; Benson. A vote of 2 eyes and 0 nays, motion carried. The issue will be carried forward.
OLD BUSINESS:
Sherman Jail, No bids at this time/open for next meeting.
Ellis will work on getting roads sprayed for over grown weeds and grass.
Dan Hansen would like a increase in the fee to spray for mosquitoes, Motion by; Karpen, Second by; Benson to increase cost from $50.00 total, to $50.00 to the town of Jasper Mn. for the sprayer and $50.00 to Hansen for doing the spraying. Total cost will now be $100.00 each time with a total of 4 times in August, $400.00. Vote of 3 eyes motion carried.
Receive Workers Comp Survey, Karpen will call them and mail it in.
NEW BUSINESS:
Berg turned in a petition signed by 25 residents of Sherman indicating the desire to replace the large damaged slide. A petition was also placed at the Bullet with 0 signatures received.
Annual budget was looked over, Motion by; Karpen, Second by; Benson for the first reading of the Ordinance 2016 annual budget.
Roof on Town Hall is in need of repairs, Ellis will get Zach Swenson to fix it.
