The Sherman Town Board met in regular session Tuesday, September 5, 2017. 

Members present: Lee Ellis, Gerry Karpen, Bill Benson, Cheryl Swenson and Robin Berg.

Others present: Kara Duncan, Linda & Bob Askren.  

Ellis called the meeting to order.

Approval of the Agenda: Motion by; Karpen, second by; Benson. 

ROUTINE BUSINESS: Minutes of the August 1, 2017 meeting was approved as read, Motion by; Karpen, Second by; Benson.

The treasurer’s report was approved as read, Motion by; Karpen, Second by; Benson.   

CLAIMS APPROVED TO BE PAID: Xcel Energy, street light, no bill, park light $18.39, town hall lights $30.13, Strom Park, system svc $92.60; Minnehaha Community Water, Sep. water $30.00; Darrin Trower, 2x mowing $80.00; Clay Bonte, 2x mowing $ 70.00; Bill Benson, 3x mowing $120.00: Robin Berg, 3x mowing $90.00, Tiger Park banner & balloons $55.08, copy of Rev. & Exp. Brown Merry & Hammer, legal fees $400.00; Jesse James, 12.3 gal of gas $26.55, 12.1 gal of gas $26.16;Garretson Gazette, July min. $19.17; SDPAA, insurance $2,336.17;

OLD BUSINESS:  Collapsing structure; on the subject of the crumbling structure at 110 Zeliff, there were some complaints that in addition to the hazard the property presents, there is no normal yard maintenance being done which is encouraging the presence of rodents. The town will take appropriate action. 

A motion was made by Karpen, for the second reading of the Amendment of Ordinance #2016-1 seconded by Benson, motion passed with a vote of three ayes.

A motion was made by Karpen, for a donation of a $100.00 for the Garretson Food Pantry and a $100.00 to Team Tayden Benefit, seconded by Benson, motion passed with a vote of three ayes.

Tiger Park: There was discussion on purchasing a top for the new Tiger Park play ground equipment. Trash cans, a landmark stone indicating Tiger Park and a potential fence were also discussed. There are new picnic tables ready to be used thanks to the City of Jasper.

A motion was made by Karpen, for one trash can in each park at $12.00 per can, and also a once a month trash pickup during the summer months, seconded by Benson, motion passed with a vote of three ayes.

NEW BUSINESS:

Town Clerk presents proposed Ordinance #2017-1.b

Motion by; Karpen to approve with changes made to the proposed Ordinance #2017-1 for the  first reading of the Ordinance #2017-1. Second by; Benson, a vote of three ayes motion carried

Open meeting set for September 19, 2017 for the second reading of the Ordinance #2017-1 at 6:30 p.m. at Sherman Town Hall.

Motion by; Karpen to adjourn, second by Benson, 

The next regular meeting will be Tuesday, October 3, 2017 @7:30 p.m.
