The Sherman Town Board met in regular session Tuesday, April 5, 2011, 7:30 p.m. at the Sherman Town Hall with President Kara Duncan presiding.

Members present: Bill Benson, Cheryl Swenson, Robin Berg, and Danessa Keener.

Others present:  Brian Berg, Larry Sutton, Sandra Sutton, Neil Winterton

 

ROUTINE BUSINESS:

The Agenda was approved.

Minutes of the March 1, 2011, meeting were read and approved.

The treasurer’s report was read and approved except the bill for tree trimming. A vote was taken for approval of payment for the tree trimming.  Duncan: Yea, Benson: Yea, and Berg: Nay. 

Trustee Bill Benson had to leave meeting to get documentation of payment for tree trimming, Duncan formally closed the meeting at 7:45 on request of Brian Berg.  Meeting reopened at 7:54. 

 

PUBLIC COMMENT:

Brian Berg presented a bill from last June for removal of tree stumps and request that the town be responsible for the bill.  Trustee Robin Berg stepped down for the issue of this bill.  The bill was tabled until next month after Duncan is able to consult town attorney.  Duncan will also consult the town attorney on the issues presented about the tree trimming.  Two state statutes were presented in regards to the issue of the tree trimming bill: 9-23-1 and 9-23-2.  

 

CAIMS APPROVED TO BE PAID:

Tree Guy, 672.00 for the trimming of trees; PC Whizards, 425.00 for town laptop; Bill Benson, 225.00 for reimbursement; Tree Guy, 75.00 for tree trimming of truck route; Xcel Energy, 306.86 for lights; Jesse James, 166.51 for 45.5 gallons of diesel; Palisades Propane, 17.11 for propane; Anderson Publications, 43.97 for minutes and announcement of board vacancy; MCEDA, 190.00 for dues; Minnehaha Community Water. 28.00 for water; Robin Berg, 36.00 for disaster mileage; Neil Winterton, 36.00 for oil and labor; Palisades Propane, 359.99 for propane; Anderson Publications, 85.88 for ads.

 

OLD BUSINESS:

1.  Financial Report was presented and approved; motion by Berg, second by Duncan.

2.  Election set for April 12, 2011, polls will be open from 7 AM to 7 PM.  Election board was presented: Danessa Keener, Cheryl Swenson, and Kara Duncan and approved; motion by Berg, second by Benson.  Payment was also made for election board: Danessa Keener, 10.00/hr and Cheryl Swenson, 9.00/hr; motion by Berg, second by Benson.  There was concern that as President of the town board Kara Duncan could not get payment for her involvement in the election board, no amount was set at this meeting but will be tabled for the May meeting.

 

NEW BUSINESS:

1.  Letter was presented from Ann Thiel with her concerns that the tree trimming was not done fairly.  Mrs. Thiel request that trees be trimmed that are in her power lines and also a complete removal of a tree at the towns expense.  The letter was tabled for next meeting.

2.  Mowing bids were presented for mowing: Bob Askren, Lucan Swenson, and Brian and Jacob Berg.  Bids were accepted for Lucas Swenson to do Storm Park and Brian, Jacob Berg to do Town Hall.  Both bids were for $30.00, motion by Duncan, second by Benson.

3.  Date was set for town clean up: May 6th, 7th, and 8th.  Berg will mail flyer to City of Sioux Falls.

4.  The town of Sherman will begin taking bids for replacement of culverts.

5.  Removal of trees by railroad was tabled until next meeting.

 

Motion by Duncan to adjourn, second by Benson

The next regular meeting will be May 3, 2011 7:30 pm
