August 1, 2006

The Sherman Town Board met in regular session Tuesday, August 1, 2006, 7:30 p.m. at the Sherman Town Hall with President Robin Berg presiding.  

      Members present:  Robin Berg, Gerry Karpen, Sandee Sutton, Cheryl Swenson and Ann Thiel.

      Others present:  Diedre Bonte.

Minutes of the July 11, 2006, meeting were read and approved with the following corrections to claims approved to be paid:

      Jesse James Country Store, 8.5 gallons gas, $23.90

      Waste Management, 1 dumpster, $390.60

The treasurer’s report was read and approved.

CLAIMS APPROVED TO BE PAID

Minnehaha Community Water Corp, water, $22.50 and $5.00; Prairie Publications, July meeting minutes, $36.98; Xcel Energy, street lights, $166.89, town hall lights, $6.63, park light, $9.70; Brian Berg, 1 time mowing city lot, $25.00; Virgil Inglett, 1 time mowing Strom Park, $30.00; Garretson Hardware, paint and painting supplies for town hall, $111.52; Stamp Masters, postage stamps, $39.00.  Claim tabled to next meeting:  Waste Management, 1 dumpster, $378.10.

BIDS

Road Repair.  Motion by Sutton, second by Berg, to accept the bid from Leo Lou to resurface First Avenue on the east side of town.

OLD BUSINESS

1.       Planning Commission.  Diedre Bonte accepted a two year term on the Planning Commission.

2.       Road repairs.  Vandersnick will repair the two main culverts.  Zeliff Avenue will be repaired next year.

3.       Playground equipment.  Volunteers are needed on September 16 & 17 to help the Garretson FFA move the playground equipment to Strom Park.

4.       Camping.  Bonte will get information on the City of Garretson’s ordinance regarding camping on private property. 

NEW BUSINESS

1.       Danrek Designs.  It has come to the attention of the Board that Danrek Designs has a shop in Sherman on a property that is zoned residential.  This may need to be re-zoned, and members thought Sherman should be getting sales tax revenue.  Sutton will call the State Department of Revenue to find out if the business has a sales tax license.  Tabled to next meeting.

2.       Town Hall repairs.  Water leaks under the garage door when it rains, and the pipes under the kitchen sink are leaking.  Karpen will repair both.

3.       CD.  Motion by Berg, second by Karpen, to transfer $20,000.00 from the General Fund checking account to a 90-day CD.

4.       Building permit.  Motion by Karpen, second by Sutton, to approve Kevin and Cheryl Swenson’s building permit for adding a deck on their house at 270 Zeliff Avenue.

5.       Revenue and expenditures.  Thiel presented the proposed Appropriation Ordinance for 2007.  The first reading of the Ordinance will be at the September Board meeting.

Motion by Karpen to adjourn, second by Sutton.

The next regular meeting will be September 5, 2006, at 7:30 p.m.
