April 4, 2006

The Sherman Town Board met in regular session Tuesday, April 4, 2006, 7:30 p.m. at the Sherman Town Hall with President Robin Berg presiding.  

      Members present:  Robin Berg, Bill Benson, Gerry Karpen, Cheryl Swenson and Ann Thiel.

      Others present:  Sandee Sutton, John Eslinger, Dwana Eslinger, Wayne Reit, Rhonda Drews and Vern Whitaker.

      Minutes of the February 7, 2005, meeting were read and approved with the following correction:

The item regarding vacating an alley should have referenced Block 11.

      The treasurer’s report was read and approved.

CLAIMS APPROVED TO BE PAID

Minnehaha Community Water Corp, water, $22.50; Prairie Publications, March meeting minutes, $40.39, Annual Report, $44.77, Statement of Funds, $18.00, Notice of Equalization meeting, $17.06, Board of Equalization meeting minutes, $14.83; Xcel Energy, electricity, $220.17; Ann Thiel, 6 hours cleaning filing cabinets $54.00, binders and file folders, $15.69.

OLD BUSINESS

1.       Safety Benefits.  The park slide must be repaired or removed by April 30. 

2.       2006 Mowing.  A bid was received from Brian and Jacob Berg for mowing the town hall lot at $25.00 per mowing.  Motion by Karpen, seconded by Berg, to accept the bid.

3.       Zoning Board.  Berg is waiting for the people she has talked to about being on the board to get back to her.

NEW BUSINESS

1.       Building Permit.  Wayne Reit, on behalf of Larry Sutton, Zoning Administrator, presented a building permit application from Dean Wilson of Wilson Enterprises.  Sutton denied the permit.  Wilson wants to move a mobile home on to Lot 1, Block 7 (southeast corner of 2nd Street and Zeliff Ave).  Motion by Berg, seconded by Karpen, to deny the permit.  Thiel will send the permit and check to Dean Hammer, attorney, with a request that Hammer return them to Wilson with a letter explaining that the Board will not approve the building permit nor grant a conditional use permit. 

2.       Clean up day.  Sherman clean up day will be Saturday, May 6.

3.       Tires.  The City needs to get rid of the tires on the vacant lot next to Town Hall.

4.       Finance Officer training.  Motion by Karpen, seconded by Benson, authorizing Thiel to attend the Finance Officer’s Training School in Watertown in June. 

PARK COMMITTEE REPORT

      The park committee will meet on May 1, 2006, at 6:30 p.m.  Berg will repair the merry-go-round in Strom Park.

      Motion by Karpen to adjourn, seconded by Benson.

      The next regular meeting will be May 2, 2006, at 7:30 p.m.
